Here are the details for tomorrow's workday, which will be at the Aqueduct.

  • We will meet on-site at 8:30 a.m. at the "Proposed Parking" on County Road 39, about 1.9 miles north of Hwy 160, (See map below, or map to: 37.35878, -108.33445). When you arrive, pull in through the narrow gate on the East (right) side of the road, drive between the orange flags in a counterclockwise direction and park facing the gate you entered. Keep to the right side to allow for vehicles to pass if they leave earlier than you. If you have a low-clearance vehicle we'll try to park you along the road.
  • Covid precautions: Bring masks to the project site. If you are able to maintain physical distancing of a minimum of six feet we will not have to wear the masks.  During trail construction activities, we anticipate individuals to be spaced a minimum of 14 feet apart when using hand tools which is well above the CDC guidelines for COVID-19 and relates to the safe working distances outlined in the Risk Management Worksheet for Trail Work.
  • You will need to sign a Volunteer Service Agreement Group Sign-Up Form (This is signed every workday.)
  • You will need to sign a Risk Management Worksheet related to the anticipated seasonal project work. (This only needs to be signed once per year.)
  • Remember to wear sturdy boots, long pants, sunglasses or safety glasses, work gloves and bring rain gear (we can only hope!). Don't forget sunscreen and bug repellent! Bring lots of water and your own lunch.

Beginning at 8:30 am we will have a safety briefing including a discussion around CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19 and the mitigation measures the BLM is implementing to manage known risks associated with the planned project work.

For the trail work, we'll review tool safety and do 3-4 hours of brush clearing and tread work. If we have more than 10 people we will break into smaller groups and work on different sections of the trail.

We plan on being finished before 2pm so we can all gather at the Mancos Brewery after to celebrate a good day of trail work!

Come build new trails for Mancos with MTG!

Mancos Trails Group is excited to announce that our group trail work days have returned for 2021! This Saturday, June 12, we will be working on building new trail near Mancos. We will meet at 8:30 am at either the Aqueduct or Chicken Creek areas (exact location will be announced on Thursday). Work will involve everything from clearing brush to constructing new trail using pick-mattocks, hoes and other implements. We'll provide the tools.

We plan on being finished by 2pm so we can all gather at the Mancos Brewery after to celebrate a good day of trail work!

What to wear:
Wear long pants, closed-toe shoes or boots, sunglasses or safety glasses and work gloves.

What to bring:
  • Water - We'll be out working for several hours
  • Lunch and snacks - We'll plan on heading to the Mancos Brewery around 2pm, but you'll probably need something to sustain you during the day! Plan on packing some snacks or a sandwich
  • Work gloves
  • Sunscreen & sun protection
  • Bug repellent

Where will we be working?
Work will be on either the new trail system at the Aqueduct, two miles northwest of town off of Road 39 or in the Chicken Creek area north of town off of Road 40. Below is a quick summary of these two new trail expansions.

For more info on the two new trails areas, see our Projects page.
