Exciting News! Instead of just one trail in the adoption program, Mancos Trails Group is opening up two additional trail systems for adoption! The Chicken Creek and Aqueduct Trail systems are now also open for adoption!
The trail adoption system has been a great program for volunteers to oversee and maintain their own sections of trails in our areas. The program allows members of the community to choose a section of trail, and then visit throughout the season, to check it and carry out simple maintenance tasks to keep the trail in good shape. Not only does this keep the trail in great condition, but it also widens the impact and recognition of MTG through our region! These new opportunities are perfect for people who want slightly shorter segments of trail to work on, or areas closer to home! Trail adoption is perfect for people who cannot make the scheduled workdays, prefer to work on their own, or want to volunteer more then they may be doing currently. We are also opening Trail Adoption to businesses and groups! A business or group can adopt a section and plan a specific trail day for all employees/members who would like to attend, or can share the info for their folks to work as their schedules allow. We ask that trail adopters plan to maintain their trail segment at least two days a season. MTG can provide both training and tools to borrow. As we are working on BLM and Forest Service lands there are also some documentation requirements. MTG will host a Trail Work and Training Day on Saturday May 18 for all adopters who want to know more about the type of work we are hoping to see performed, and what to look for on trail. Tool operation, and safety will also be discussed. We have lots of information on our website – more in-depth discussions of the work, as well as additional information. Maps and descriptions of the segments, and info about documentation are all available. Join us at the Mancos Brewery on May 3rd for the MTG spring launch party! Huge thanks to Kathy and Dewayne for hosting the party again this year. They're such great supporters of MTG and are brewing up a special beer to benefit MTG! Enjoy great beer, food, music and friends. More details to follow... Aqueduct: Scheduled to open May 1st (conditions permitting) Chicken Creek: It's a mixture of snow and mud. Mancos Spur: Trails are still buried in snow. Please keep off the trails until they are dry, as trails are very vulnerable to damage when muddy. Remember - If you leave a track, please turn back! |
