The West Mancos Trail is a incredibly diverse trail as it leads you through a aspen forest near Transfer Campground all the way up to the Sharkstooth Trailhead close to treeline. The trail passes by the old Golconda town site along the way. The trail is 1 of 3 trails that compose the Mancos Spur. The trail is currently somewhat challenging to navigate. The intersections will be resigned over the next few years along with more frequent trail maintenance by the Mancos Trails Group and other local trail groups.
If travelling by bicycle, the recommended route is from the Sharkstooth Trailhead to Transfer Campground. The trail traverses very rough terrain and is recommended for expert riders only. There are a few bail routes onto the Aspen Loop ATV route which will also take you to Transfer CG.

The trail begins in lush forests of spruce and fir while skirting the base of Mount Hesperus. It passes through numerous aspen groves and large meadows. The trail passes through a few small creeks close to the junction with the Aspen Loop Spur Trail. The trail becomes rockier as you continue on toward Golconda and even more so as you make the final push to Transfer Campground.
